Contoruing versus Strobing

Hello World!!

Contouring and strobing are two fairly new makeup trends that I feel are polar opposites of each other. In order to differentiate the two we need to make sure we know exactly what each trend is all about! It is important to know have immense knowledge of new trends in order to make sure that we can not only make an educated choice but also be able to educate others who have question about these things as well.

Contouring:

Contouring became all the rage when  the Kardashians chose publicize their makeup preferences. Suddenly contouring was everywhere. Everyone wanted to look perfect just like the Kardashian clan. Makeup companies raked in a ridiculous amount of profit thanks to our incessant desire to look picture perfect that took over the world like wildfire. Contour powders, bronzers, matte highlighting sticks suddenly became the new must haves.

Strobing:

Strobing, on the other hand is all about accentuating the beautiful features that you already have been blessed with. It allows for you to be able to bring light, or attention, to these unique features with the help of light shimmery products that reflect shine. Once again this trend helped makeup companies rake in numerous amounts of profit as they created strobing kits and every kind of highlighter you could possibly think of. We have stick, liquid, powder, matte, shiny, extreme shimmer, loose highlighters. You name it and it's probably been made by some makeup company. I believe that this trend originated from Europe. This is where most people go for all natural makeup and prefer to accentuate their features rather than shape them.

Now that you have learned the difference, which do you prefer? One or both? I prefer giving a soft shade to my natural facial shadows while allowing for a light highlighting of my prized features.. I prefer a more naturally highlighted look anyway and that is the reason that I find some of these trends a bit much for myself. I like to alter trends according to my personality and preference. After all, you are the only one who knows what looks best on you!

I don't think that it is necessary to completely alter your face, but I do think that adding makeup to enhance your features and make you look more professional isn't a bad thing at all. I find that this in fact helps to create a more professional image. I think that if nothing else it wouldn't hurt to try and see what you look like with extreme contouring and subtle contouring or even extreme and subtle highlighting. This will allow you to be able to perfect your everyday makeup look and see what you prefer doing on a daily basis.
